Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is a water-soluble vitamin, which means that it dissolves in water. Vitamin B6 has many functions in the body. One of its main roles is to help the body metabolize proteins, fats and carbohydrates for energy. It also helps with the functions of the immune system, brain development during pregnancy and infancy, the production of neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine, and hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying part of red blood cells.
