What sunscreen to choose and what to look out for?

We probably know that prolonged exposure to the sun and thus exposure to UBA and UVB radiation is really harmful. It does not take long to get burned. In such cases, the skin may age more quickly or some diseases may occur. There are incredible amounts of sunscreens and oils and with different ingredients. But how to choose the right one? Most conventional sunscreens contain chemicals that protect against the sun's rays, but can also upset hormonal balance, cause allergies and damage DNA.

Conventional sunscreens contain, for example, oxybenzone, avobenzone or octocrylene. These are chemical filters that are absorbed into the skin and then find their way into out bloodstream and urine. The ingredients list of such sunscreens contain for example, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate referred to as octinoxate, oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate or octinoxate. Chemical sunscreens tend to be lighter, clear and easy to apply.

The key difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens is that mineral sunscreens sit on the skin surface and BLOCK the rays on the surface with ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, while chemical sunscreens ABSORB the rays like a sponge with ingredients such as is oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate or octinoxate. In addition, chemical filters produce free radicals that damage cells. They can also cause hormonal imbalances.

Natural (mineral) sunscreens

So-called natural sunscreens are called mineral. They consist of active substances such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. It forms a physical barrier that reflects sun rays away from the skin. Unlike conventional chemical sunscreens, it poses no danger to aquatic organisms. Sunbathe and do not harm yourself or the environment around you. Organic cosmetics do not contain parabens that block the stimulation of the most important vitamin D. Thanks to the absence of parabens, they also do not cause allergies.
